Allmatters Menstrual Disc

It will likely take a few cycles to get the hang of using your Allmatters disc. Using liners or period underwear can be a great way to boost your confidence while learning the art of disc use.

Insertion:

1. Wash your hands.
2. Fold the Allmatters disc into a figure 8 shape between your thumb and forefinger.
3. Keep the disc folded until it is inserted into your vagina (this may take some practice). You can use water as a natural lubricant if the disc is difficult to insert.
4. Push the disc, rim side up, as far up into your vaginal canal as comfortable. The back of the disc should sit in the posterior vaginal fornix.
5. The disc should open up as you tuck the front of it up behind your pubic bone. The disc must sit below your cervix to collect your menstrual flow.
6. If the disc is correctly inserted, you should not feel it.
7. Wear your disc for up to 12 hours or overnight. It may need to be emptied more often during the day depending on your level of flow.

Removal:

1. Wash your hands.
2. When it comes time to empty the disc, it is best to sit on the toilet or stand in the shower
3. Relax! This is essential for easier removal.
4. Insert your index finger and hook it (nail side down), under the rim of the disc and pull it straight out of your vaginal canal. If necessary, gently bear down with your vaginal muscles to assist with removal.
5. Empty the disc contents in the toilet or sink and rinse the disc in cold water.
6. Once clean, reinsert the disc.

Your menstrual disc needs to be sterilised before first use and then at the beginning of each period. This can be done on the stovetop, or in the microwave. You do not need to sterilise each time you empty the disc.

Stovetop Sterilising:

Place your Allmatter disc in a pot of boiling water for 3-5 minutes. We recommend placing the disc inside a whisk to prevent it from touching the base or sides of the pot and burning.

Microwave Sterilising:

Place the disc in a mug and cover with water. Microwave on high for 3-5 minutes. Allow to cool before removing from the microwave. You can also use a baby bottle steriliser bag, or menstrual cup steriliser instead of a mug.

During and at the end of your period:

Simply rinse your disc thoroughly under cold water. You can use a mild soap or menstrual cup cleanser if this is your preference, however it is not necessary. Make sure the disc is completely dry before storying in the cotton storage bag. Avoid storing your Allmatters disc in airtight or damp places.
