IMPORTANT– This is not a contraceptive device! The Hey Zomi disc will only keep menstrual fluid in. It does not protect you from STIs or pregnancy. When used together, friction between a disc and a condom may create a micro-tear in the condom.

Hey Zomi Sizing:

The Hey Zomi is a one size fits most menstrual disc.

Dimensions: 65mm diameter | 52ml capacity

It will likely take a few cycles to get the hang of using your Hey Zomi disc. Using liners or period underwear can be a great way to boost your confidence while learning the art of disc use.

Insertion:

  1. Sterilise your Hey Zomi disc according the care instructions before first use
  2. Make sure your hands are clean before inserting your disc
  3. Grip your disc between your thumb and forefinger, pinching the rim at the centre
  4. The Hey Zomi logo on the inner rim should be pointing towards you and will enter the vagina first, followed by the handle
  5. Sit over the toilet or gently squat as you insert the disc into your vagina. Guide it in, pushing it back towards your tailbone
  6. Use your index finger to push the disc in as far as it will go. Then, press upwards underneath the rim and handle to tuck it up behind your pubic bone
  7. When you stand up, you can check the position of the disc by inserting your finger to check that the rim has remained behind the pubic bone. You can also ‘draw up’ your pelvic floor muscles to help ensure the disc is tucked in place
  8. If the disc is correctly inserted, you should not feel it.

Removal:

Depending on your level of flow, you should be able to leave your disc in place for up to 12 hours.

  1. When it comes time to empty the disc, it is best to sit on the toilet or stand in the shower
  2. Relax!
  3. Insert your index finger and hook it in the handle
  4. Slowly pull your disc out at a horizontal angle and empty it
  5. Wash under cold water and then reinsert

Your Hey Zomi needs to be sterilised before first use and then at the beginning of each period. This can be done on the stovetop, or in the microwave. You do not need to sterilise each time you empty the disc. If boiling is not your thing, why not try the quick and convenient Hey Zomi Cleaning tablets.

Stovetop Sterilising:

Place your Hey Zomi in a pot of boiling water for 3-5 minutes. We recommend placing the disc inside a whisk to prevent it from touching the base or sides of the pot and burning.

Microwave Sterilising:

Place the disc in a mug and cover with water. Microwave on high for 3-5 minutes. Allow to cool before removing from the microwave. You can also use a baby bottle steriliser bag, or menstrual cup steriliser instead of a mug.

During and at the end of your period:

Simply rinse your disc thoroughly under cold water. You can use a mild soap or menstrual cup cleanser if this is your preference, however it is not necessary. Make sure the disc is completely dry before storying in the cotton bag or box.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Hey Zomi is available in White or Black. Choose white if you like to understand your flow and see all the nitty gritty. Choose black if the sight of blood makes you squeamish or if you would like a colour that hides eventual staining of the disc.

When you are away from home and you don’t have access to running water, you can use the ‘auto-dump’ technique. This method allows you to partially empty the disc without fully removing it.

The Hey Zomi is made from 100% medical grade silicone, which is durable and long lasting. If cared for properly, your disc should last for years. However, if you notice any tears, or changes to the look and feel of the silicone, it may be time to replace it.

Yes you can! Just remember that your vagina lengthens when you are aroused, meaning that your disc may sit higher. It can take a few hours for things to return to normal, so it is recommended not to remove your disc immediately following sex.

Please note: Menstrual discs are NOT intended to be used as a form of contraception and will not prevent pregnancy.

If condoms are your only method of birth control, it is recommended to remove your menstrual disc rather than use them together. It is possible that friction between the disc and the condom could create a micro-tear in the condom.

If you have tried your Hey Zomi for a few cycles without success, we encourage you to reach out to us for troubleshooting tips. If a refund becomes necessary, you can return the disc (the cost of returning the disc is the responsibility of the customer). You will then be provided with a product refund (less original postage charges). Please note that all returned discs are disposed of immediately.

The Hey Zomi was initially a 100% Aussie made menstrual disc. However, while the company is still Australian owned, the discs are now manufactured in China.

Finally! A cup that actually fits right! Easy to insert, easy to remove and clean and I can’t feel a thing once it’s in, I love it. Only downfall is it presses against the urethra making peeing a slower less relieving process lol.

    Cup vs disc? Read me.
An honest review from an experienced 10+ year menstrual cup user. I was in need of a new menstrual cup, as my current one (lunette brand which was 10+ years old) started having a small breakage in-between the silicon join.

I wanted to try hey zomi as they are an Australian brand, and wanted to try a disc as they didn’t exist when I first bought my lunette cup. Hey zomi also came in black, which was a big plus, since coloured silicon tends to have stains over time.

I have used the hey zomi disc for 3 cycles, and sorry to say I will be going back to a menstrual cup. Using a disc is VERY messy compared to a cup. A cup will hold and contain the blood within the cup and when you removed it you can pour it into the toilet/basin, then wipe it out with tissue paper. The disc does not contain the blood at all. It is like a shelf you are pulling out, so the blood just spills out over your hands/clothes. For removal of the disc (when full) I would recommend pulling it out half way, still half inserted above the pubic bone, sit back down over the toilet and do a few kegels to push out the excess blood into the toilet, then remove the disc with some toilet paper in your hand. But it is still very messy and I would not remove this in a public bathroom- high recommend to remove it at home in the shower only.

The disc also retains odours. Even after sanitizing in boiling water for 10 minutes it still has an odor after my second cycle. My lunette cup is very old and does not have the smells that the hey zomi disc has after a short use.

Also I find a cup is more sturdier and hard wearing than the hey zomi. The bowl portion of the hey zomi is quite a thin delicate silicon sheet, which I understand is designed that way to be able to be folded into a narrow shape for insertion. However I feel it will not last the same amount of years compared to my cup. I am using a soft headed toothbrush for cleaning after use, and have to be quite gentle for fear of ripping the silicon.

If you are a first time user for a disc/cup I’d recommend going with a cup for the above reasons.

For either of these products (disc/cup) you will need to learn about your female anatomy to get the placement right. Both of these will need to cover the cervix to avoid getting leaks. Personally I find the cup easier and faster to insert. After inserting into the vaginal cavity, 1 – It needs to be above the pubic bone. Do a few kegels and if the product pulls away from you, it is above the pubic bone. 2 – you will need to feel with your finger around the rim of the disc/cup to see if you can feel your cervix. If you can feel it outside the rim of the disc/cup it is not in the correct position and it will leak! Reposition it so that it covers your cervix – with the hey zomi you can feel your cervix through the thin silicon, which means it is in the correct place. All the best ladies x

Life-changing device! Highly recommended. Tried a cup about 15 years ago, without success. The disc is way better! Wish I’d had one 30 years ago.
I’ve tried a couple of discs – Hey Zomi’s handle makes retrieval much easier.

I can’t recommend trying a period cup more. The only period product I have ever used have been pads so I was nervous about how I would go using a cup. I loved it. It was the first time in my life I have ever been able to not worry about my period; No needing to rush to the toilet to make sure I didn’t start bleeding through my pad, no uncomfortable rush of blood when I stood up and overall I felt like I spent less time dealing with my period using the cup than when I used pads.
It was super easy to get into place and even though it was my first time using a cup I didn’t have any leaks or mishaps while using it and it was super comfortable, I honestly didn’t even notice it.

BUY THIS PRODUCT OMG!!!!! Hand on my heart, I have never been so impressed with a product in my life. The quality is absolutely amazing. It is so so easy to use, only took me a few goes to get used to and I will never be going back to tampons and pads. So easy to clean and store and it was comfortable to use during all stages of my period, including the awkward end stage when you’re unsure if you’re done or not. I also suffer from recurring thrush and my period always makes it 10 x worse but I had absolutely no irritation from the disc. I’ve been recommending to literally everyone woman I know hahah
Thank you so much Hey Zomi!!!!!!

I’ve tried the disc and I’m not satisfied as shown on the website. I’ve blood leaking out after applying the disc and when taking it out it’s impossible to don’t get yourself dirty. I found the cups working much better than this one.

I was a cup user but keen to try a disc as the cup put a lot of pressure on my bladder. I was worried that the disc wouldn’t fit, would slip etc but I wish I’d switched earlier!! Easy to insert, didn’t have any leakage and completely unnoticeable when in. Removal was a bit messier than the cup but I am hoping that will improve as my skills improve (also as I only need to remove morning and night I can do this at home so it’s really a non issue).

It’s a fabulous product. Unfortunately, I do have a mild prolapse from having 3 children and it does leak for me. I think if I tried this product pre children it would have been wonderful. I really wish it had worked for me now. Kind of sad it didn’t. I’d still recommend to those who don’t have a prolapse.

Oh my goodness, so glad to have bought this! I have used menstrual cups in the past but had leakage and was frustrated by the suction, I have also used reuseable pads but there is a lot of washing involved. The Hey Zomi is so easy to use, so comfortable, I don’t even notice it, and no leakage or suction to deal with!!
    Can’t recommend enough!
