Saalt Disc - Period care simplified!

Saalt have simplified period management yet again. This time they have done it with a comfortable, reusable, no-mess menstrual disc. Menstrual discs work differently to cups and don’t rely on suction to stay in place. Rather, they are positioned up behind the pubic bone. This unique design makes them an excellent choice for those who have bladder sensitivities (such as frequent UTI’s), weak pelvic floor muscles, or a low or high cervix. The Saalt disc also has a custom finger notch to help make removal easier and a little less messy. Purchasing this duo box means you get one of each size Saalt Disc at a more economical price.

Saalt Disc features:

  • Comfortable – made from 100% medical grade silicone, this disc is soft and sensationless
  • Wear for up to 12 hours or overnight
  • Reusable – lasts for up to 10 years
  • Easy removal due to the built-in finger notch and grip lines
  • Stays in place by resting under the cervix and behind the pubic bone, without any need for suction
  • No-mess period sex – flexible, flat fit design allows for no-mess intimacy. Note: Menstrual discs are NOT a contraceptive. When used together, friction between a disc and a condom may create a micro-tear in the condom.
  • No BPA, or latex. Odor free and non-toxic
  • High capacity and available in two sizes for a custom fit
  • Can be used with IUD’s when worn as directed
  • Made in the USA
  • Each Duo Box contains 1 x Small Disc and 1 x Regular Disc, plus 2 x storage pouches (pouch colour varies based on availability)

Saalt Menstrual Disc Features

Saalt Disc sizing:

Unlike many menstrual disc brands, the Saalt Disc is available in 2 sizes to help you find the best one for your anatomy and level of flow.

What size Saalt Menstrual Disc?

The first time you use your Saalt Disc and at the end of each cycle, it is recommended to boil it for 4-5 minutes in order to properly sanitize it.

  1. Prepare: Wash your hands and thoroughly rinse off any soap residue.
  2. Fold: Pinch the sides of the Saalt Disc together between your thumb and forefinger to create a thin elongated figure 8 shape.
  3. Insert: With your disc held firmly, slide it in at a horizontal angle towards the tip of your tailbone. Your disc should be completely inside the vagina.
  4. Position: Release your pinch on the disc and tuck the notch up above your tailbone so that it is held securely in place.
  5. Remove: Wash your hands thoroughly. Stand, sit, or squat. Use your forefinger to locate the notch of the disc. Tuck your finger into the notch and gently pull it down from behind your pubic bone. Do not try to pull the disc out by grabbing the silicone ‘bowl’. Gently and slowly pull it out to help minimise mess. Empty the contents of the disc into a sink or toilet.
  6. Rinse and Re-insert: Rinse your disc in cold water. You may also like to clean it with a menstrual cup cleanser. Your disc is then ready to re-insert.

Sanitize: At the start and end of your period, sterilise your disc by boiling it in a pot of water for 4-5 minutes or by using the Saalt microwave cup steriliser. The disc storage bag can be cleaned by adding to your regular load of laundry.

Wash: During your cycle, rinse your Saalt disc in cold water to help prevent staining or use a menstrual cup cleanser to clean the disc. Avoid any cleanser containing fragrance or oils that may irritate your vagina or cause deterioration of your disc.

Store: Allow your disc to air dry thoroughly and store in its bag (or other breathable container) until next needed. Some discolouration may occur over time. This is normal.

If your Saalt disc is broken or shows any sign of deterioration, it’s time to replace it.

Saalt Disc FAQ's

Self-emptying or ‘auto-dumping’ is a feature of all menstrual discs. This is where the rim of the disc dislodges from behind the pubic bone (usually by bearing down with your pelvic floor muscles), allowing the cup to empty without being removed completely. Once the auto-dump is complete, simply tuck the rim back behind the pubic bone.

Because of the notch in the Saalt Disc, it is easier to grab and remove, making it slightly less messy than other discs. However, there will still be more mess than when using a cup. Be prepared for a gush of fluid to come out if your disc is quite full. Grabbing the disc with a bit of toilet paper can also help absorb and lessen some of the mess.

The Saalt Disc is suitable for all cervix heights, since its placement is based on the pubic bone position, rather than suction within the vaginal canal. People with a low cervix may find a disc more suitable if they have had trouble with cups pushing their way out.

The ‘bowl’ of the Saalt Disc is made from paper thin silicone and should be unnoticeable to your partner during sex.

No, the Saalt disc does not have measuring lines, and discs are typically not suitable for measuring your menstrual loss. The way in which the contents often fall out of the disc during removal makes it difficult to determine the amount originally within it. As a guide, the small Saalt Disc has a 30ml volume and the regular Saalt Disc has a 50ml volume.

Due to the different design of discs compared to cups, there is no need for different types of folds. Simply pinch the disc between your thumb and forefinger to create a thin, elongated (figure 8) shape, and slide it into place.

My daughter couldn’t get a menstutal cup to work for her. But the disc worked amazingly and she and I are estatic!

Switching to using a cup a few years ago took time getting used to, especially inserting it. I tried a few different sizes and I liked the environmental impact and less smell, but I could always feel it and it would always leak, especially on the heavy days. Eventually when I realised it caused some irritation, I went back to tampons.
I did some research and tried out this disc and after my first cycle, I’m so impressed! It was easy to insert and I couldn’t feel it at all. Being intimate worked and best of all it didn’t leak on my heavy day. I need to practice removing it as that was quite messy. The finger grip didn’t help to get it out, I needed to get a finger over the top and pull it and it was quite messy. That’s why I’ve rated 4 and not the full 5. It did get easier, I’m hoping there is a knack to it that I’ll get used to.
I think that using a cup first helped me be comfortable getting right in there, now the disc seems like a game changer and I’m so happy it seems like I won’t have to go back to disposable sanitary items and there will be no leaks (or at least way less). I hope my next cycle with the disc while I’m travelling is just as easy.

This product has literally changed my life.

I was bleeding through Tampax special capacity tampons (and the back up pad I was using too (at the same time 🙄)) sometimes within 15-30 minutes. This would happen to me for up to 48 hours per cycle. At least once per cycle I was waking up with, well, different coloured sheets than I’d gone to sleep on!

Really, it was a constant worry for me and so expensive trying to manage that!

I had heard about cups, but not discs and I was actually intimidated by (even the thought of) them. Sometimes it’s hard to make a change when we’re used to the same products for so long.

But, wow. REALLY, WOW. Wow. And wow.

I’ve been using for 2 months now and I would never go back to tampons. The difference is night and day!

I still use a back up pad, but I was inspired to switch to washable pads too. No more landfill now that I trust the alternatives.

It feels really good to know that I’ve found a life changing product and that I’m helping our beautiful earth with less waste also!

In the beginning, I found it a little tricky to fit it correctly and had to try (and try and try again), but the moment I got it into the exact right place I could tell instantly. You can feel when it positions correctly due to the finger-indentation on the rim.

The first time I used it, I did a trial run before my cycle (to get used to it) and I could not get it out! Panic, I surely did.
My body just wouldn’t let it out! But, I found that slowly breathing out and relaxing was the key to success.

If you are considering trying the Saalt disc, please don’t hesitate. Especially if you are a VERY heavy bleeder (such as myself). It will change your life and your confidence regarding your cycle.

Switched to these after no longer being able to use menstrual cups with my super low cervix after giving birth twice. These work perfectly! Very happy that I could switch back to a reusable product.

So far so amazing! They aren’t as scary as they look and if you like the cups but struggle with leakage, the discs are a game changer. My new and only thing I want to use now!

I’d been wanting to switch to menstrual discs from tampons etc. for months and kept forgetting to get around to it. Finally did my research and none of the recommended high-cervix discs were in stock anywhere. So I gave the Saalt cups a go for my first try with discs and I am so beyond blown away! NOT A SINGLE LEAK! I’ve only used the larger of the two pack because it was a perfect fit and I am lucky, it is self-emptying! Due to the fit of course… So so happy with this product. I feel way more secure wearing anything I want and going anywhere than I ever did with tampons and liners.
