Saalt Disc - Period care simplified!
Saalt have simplified period management yet again. This time they have done it with a comfortable, reusable, no-mess menstrual disc. Menstrual discs work differently to cups and don’t rely on suction to stay in place. Rather, they are positioned up behind the pubic bone. This unique design makes them an excellent choice for those who have bladder sensitivities (such as frequent UTI’s), weak pelvic floor muscles, or a low or high cervix. The Saalt disc also has a custom finger notch to help make removal easier and a little less messy.
Saalt Disc features:
- Comfortable – made from 100% medical grade silicone, this disc is soft and sensationless
- Wear for up to 12 hours or overnight
- Reusable – lasts for up to 10 years
- Easy removal due to the built-in finger notch and grip lines
- Stays in place by resting under the cervix and behind the pubic bone, without any need for suction
- No-mess period sex – flexible, flat fit design allows for no-mess intimacy. Note: Menstrual discs are NOT a contraceptive. When used together, friction between a disc and a condom may create a micro-tear in the condom.
- No BPA, or latex. Odor free and non-toxic
- High capacity and available in two sizes for a custom fit
- Can be used with IUD’s when worn as directed
- Made in the USA
- Saalt Disc Duo Box also available for those who are unsure what size they need
Saalt Disc sizing:
Unlike many menstrual disc brands, the Saalt Disc is available in 2 sizes to help you find the best one for your anatomy and level of flow.

The first time you use your Saalt Disc and at the end of each cycle, it is recommended to boil it for 4-5 minutes in order to properly sanitize it.Â
- Prepare:Â Wash your hands and thoroughly rinse off any soap residue.
- Fold:Â Pinch the sides of the Saalt Disc together between your thumb and forefinger to create a thin elongated figure 8 shape.
- Insert: With your disc held firmly, slide it in at a horizontal angle towards the tip of your tailbone. Your disc should be completely inside the vagina.Â
- Position:Â Release your pinch on the disc and tuck the notch up above your tailbone so that it is held securely in place.
- Remove: Wash your hands thoroughly. Stand, sit, or squat. Use your forefinger to locate the notch of the disc. Tuck your finger into the notch and gently pull it down from behind your pubic bone. Do not try to pull the disc out by grabbing the silicone ‘bowl’. Gently and slowly pull it out to help minimise mess. Empty the contents of the disc into a sink or toilet.
- Rinse and Re-insert: Rinse your disc in cold water. You may also like to clean it with a menstrual cup cleanser. Your disc is then ready to re-insert.
Sanitize: At the start and end of your period, sterilise your disc by boiling it in a pot of water for 4-5 minutes or by using the Saalt microwave cup steriliser. The disc storage bag can be cleaned by adding to your regular load of laundry.
Wash: During your cycle, rinse your Saalt disc in cold water to help prevent staining or use a menstrual cup cleanser to clean the disc. Avoid any cleanser containing fragrance or oils that may irritate your vagina or cause deterioration of your disc.Â
Store: Allow your disc to air dry thoroughly and store in its bag (or other breathable container) until next needed. Some discolouration may occur over time. This is normal.
If your Saalt disc is broken or shows any sign of deterioration, it’s time to replace it.

Saalt Disc FAQ's
Self-emptying or ‘auto-dumping’ is a feature of all menstrual discs. This is where the rim of the disc dislodges from behind the pubic bone (usually by bearing down with your pelvic floor muscles), allowing the cup to empty without being removed completely. Once the auto-dump is complete, simply tuck the rim back behind the pubic bone.
Because of the notch in the Saalt Disc, it is easier to grab and remove, making it slightly less messy than other discs. However, there will still be more mess than when using a cup. Be prepared for a gush of fluid to come out if your disc is quite full. Grabbing the disc with a bit of toilet paper can also help absorb and lessen some of the mess.
The Saalt Disc is suitable for all cervix heights, since its placement is based on the pubic bone position, rather than suction within the vaginal canal. People with a low cervix may find a disc more suitable if they have had trouble with cups pushing their way out.
The ‘bowl’ of the Saalt Disc is made from paper thin silicone and should be unnoticeable to your partner during sex.
No, the Saalt disc does not have measuring lines, and discs are typically not suitable for measuring your menstrual loss. The way in which the contents often fall out of the disc during removal makes it difficult to determine the amount originally within it. As a guide, the small Saalt Disc has a 30ml volume and the regular Saalt Disc has a 50ml volume.
There are a few reasons why you may want two different size Saalt Discs:
- The larger for when your flow is heavy and the smaller for when your flow lessons.
- Unsure of which size will be the most suitable.
- You want to save money and give a cup to a friend or family member.
Whatever the need, Saalt have you covered with their Saalt Disc Duo Pack. They provide a more cost effective way to purchase two different sized Saalt Discs.
Due to the different design of discs compared to cups, there is no need for different types of folds. Simply pinch the disc between your thumb and forefinger to create a thin, elongated (figure 8) shape, and slide it into place.

This disc is a game changer.
I have been using the Merula menstrual cup for a couple of years and was reasonably happy with it. I did run into trouble with it on particularly heavy days when I would need to empty it and was not at home. I also occasionally ran into leakage issues.
I have tried a different type of disc that would not stay in place and gave up on the idea.
Then I saw this one and read some reviews so decided to make the investment and have another try at a disc. SO glad I did! This really suits me to a T. Although there is a slight learning curve to insert, after 2 times, I had no trouble. It goes in, tucks up onto pubic bone nice and easy and secure and auto dumps a treat! No need for public toilet attempts to empty and reinsert. Will def be so much more convenient when travelling too.
So so so glad I tried this product. Although I didn’t really feel a cup inside, I did experience VERY mild pressure. Don’t feel a thing with the disc. LOVE IT and HIGLY recommend it.

I’ve used menstrual cups for about a decade. I’m so glad I made the change to the disc. Really impressed with how comfortable it is, don’t even know it’s there. And especially how well it did while I was playing sports. No leaks at all! Quite a bit more messy than a cup on removal. I will definitely need to be in a bathroom that has toilet and sink in one room! But I’ll take that, for the comfort and leak proof-ness, and I didn’t really like the suction that was involved in cups

If you find the suction of cups uncomfortable I can’t recommend this disc more highly! Once in you quickly forget it’s there, plus they hold more so only need emptying after about 12 hours. I bought the smaller size which is great for the start of my period when my cervix is smaller. It can be messy to empty so you do need to do this part over a toilet or in the shower – but that’s the only downside. I much prefer this disc over cups now and am so glad I risked trying something new – absolutely worth it.

Amazing. Way better than a menstrual cup. I was a bit concerned about switching but fit was perfect and no leakage at all!

To those plus sized women out there who find it hard to manage a cup, switch to a disk. It is so much easier to insert and especially to pull out since there’s no suction. I love how comfortable it is, that it copes with heavy periods and is so easy to use. If you’re undecided, stop wasting time, just get it. I’m so glad I switched from a cup to a disk.

I came from using ( and loving) a menstrual cup for 5 years prior to having 2 babies and then when I got my period back after the 2nd baby, the cup just didn’t feel comfortable after my post baby body changes. This saalt disc is amazing, and so easy to use especially after using the cup for so long. 100% will recommend to everyone! I researched discs a bit before deciding which one I wanted to get. Very happy with my choice.

I prefer this to the hello disc as it is smaller and softer. There is a learning curve but I do think it’s worth it.

Since having a baby I have a bit of prolapse. I can no longer use my cups and so I tried some discs. This is the only one that stays in and doesn’t hurt! Really nice, quality material and super easy to remove with the notch, since the bottom cup bit is slightly thicker than some others it holds its shape more when you remove it which leads to less spills. Super happy with it!

I previously had a cup which I used together with period undies as the cup would often end up leaking due to my cervix changing height through my cycle. I wanted to try a disc for a while so when I accidentally left my cup in a hotel room while travelling I decided to make the switch and so far I’m loving it! Minimal leaks and quite easy to use. Definitely a bit messier than a cup to empty but you only have to empty it once in the morning and once at night because it is much bigger than a cup and holds more.
