Choosing the correct size Lunette Cup

lunette menstrual cup models

When Choosing your first cup there are a few factors to consider. There are many 14 year old virgins using the Model 2 Lunette, and we also know middle-aged women who love the Model 1. Most women can use either cup, but one of them might be more right for you.

Model 1 is 41mm in diameter and holds 25ml of fluid
Model 2 is 46mm in diameter and holds 30ml

Factors you should consider:

1. The amount of flow: This is the most important factor when choosing the right Lunette cup. As a general rule we can say that Model 2 is best for medium to heavier flow and model 1 for lighter flow.

2. Anatomy: Each woman’s anatomy is different and because of this we sometimes recommend the smaller Lunette cup for heavier flow and vice versa. The table below should help you in determining the correct size Lunette Cup. You may also find our Menstrual Cup General Sizing Guidelines helpful, and our Amount of Flow page useful in determining your menstrual flow level.

Step 3: HoldHold the cup firmly in its folded position and guide it rim-first into the vagina.menstrual cup use step 3
Step 4: InsertYou can insert the cup while sitting, standing or squatting; spreading your legs will facilitate insertion.menstrual cup use step 4
Step 5: Remove & RinseWhen removing the cup, first carefully wash your hands and relax your muscles. If you cannot reach the bottom, tug gently on the tab; slightly pushing with your internal muscles may help to bring it down. Break the seal by squeezing the bottom part of the cup, and remove it. Tip the contents into the lavatory.menstrual cup use step 5
Step 6: Re-useWash the menstrual cup carefully in water and re-insert it. Use mild and perfume-free soap for washing if needed. The cup should first be rinsed in cold water, so that menstrual blood does not make the cup develop a smell. When water is not available, from time to time you can also wipe the cup with toilet paper and/or Lunette Disinfecting wipes.menstrual cup use step 6

The product itself is fine but I find it very difficult to remove. For me it sits quite high, and even with muscles relaxed and after breaking the suction I can only remove it by pulling on the end quite hard (which is not recommended). It’s a bit of an ordeal each time so I only use it at night, when I know I will have the time/space in the morning to remove it. I think I need to find a different cup better suited to my anatomy!
