Size Guide:

When Choosing your first cup there are a few factors to consider and there is no hard and fast rule. There are many 14-year-old virgins using the Model 2 Lunette, and we also know middle-aged women who love the Model 1.  The following guide should help you determine the best fit for you.

Factors to consider:

1. Your level of flow: This is the most important factor when choosing the right Lunette cup. As a general rule we can say that Model 2 is best for medium to heavier flow and model 1 for lighter flow.

2. Anatomy: Each woman’s anatomy is different. Because of this, we sometimes recommend the smaller Lunette cup for heavier flow and vice versa. The table below should help you in determining the correct size Lunette Cup.

Determining your Amount of Flow

How to use the Lunette Cup:

Before first use: Check that the air holes at the top of your Lunette are open and clean. Wash the cup with water and a menstrual cup-approved soap or wash. Then sterilise it in a pot of boiling water for 20 minutes, making sure the cup does not touch the bottom of the pot and burn. Placing the cup inside a whisk can help prevent this from happening.

Insertion:

  1. Wash your hands thoroughly. Find a comfortable position, either sitting, standing or squatting. Relax.
  2. Fold the cup in on itself to make it flat, and then in half to form a C shape (known as the C -fold). You may also like to experiment with other types of folds.
  3. While firmly holding the folded cup, carefully guide it rim-first into the vagina. Once inserted, let go, and allow the cup to ‘pop’ open.
  4. To ensure the cup has opened completely, slide a clean finger up next to the cup and feel all the way around it. It should not be scrunched or folded anywhere.

You can use your Lunette on any day of your cycle (both heavy days and light). You can also insert your Lunette in anticipation of your period starting.

The Lunette cup will usually be emptied 2-4 times a day (depending on your level of flow). It can also be worn overnight or up to 8 hours.

Removal:

  1. Wash your hands and relax your pelvic floor muscles.
  2. Break the seal of the cup by squeezing the bottom ridged part of the cup. You should feel the suction release.
  3. Grasp the bottom of the cup tightly with your forefinger and thumb. Use a gentle back and forth rocking motion to ease the cup out.
  4. Do not pull the cup out by pulling the stem alone. This can break the stem and also result in spillage.
  5. Tip the contents into the toilet.

Rinse and Repeat!

How to Clean the Lunette Cup:

The Lunette cup should be cleaned before and after each menstrual cycle. It should also be rinsed under cold water each time it is emptied.

To help prevent odour and discolouration, thoroughly rinse the cup in cold water, THEN, you can wash with hot water and a menstrual cup wash such as the Lunette Liquid Cleanser.

Your vagina is a delicate space. Use the mildest, perfume, and oil-free soap, or a specifically designed menstrual cup cleaner ONLY on your cup. This will not only preserve the life of your Lunette cup but will also prevent the introduction of any chemical nasties to the vaginal environment.

At the end of each cycle, the Lunette cup can be sterilised in a pot of boiling water, in a microwave menstrual cup steriliser, or by using some rubbing alcohol.

Once cleaned, allow the cup to completely air dry and then store in its storage pouch, or in a ventilated container. Do not store your Lunette cup in a plastic bag or container.

Your Lunette cup should be replaced when any sign of damage to the silicone is observed.

Ive tried others and this one never gets stuck and rarely leaks

  2. Isabel C. (verified owner)

This is my 2nd Lunette cup. Love that it is comfy, comes in fun colours and does what it needs to do.

  3. Lynette (verified owner)

Love it! This is my first cup and once in place I dont feel it at all. It took a few goes to find the best method to use, but worth it.

  4. Jodie (verified owner)

I love the Lunette cup. I haven’t tried any other brands, but I haven’t needed to! Started with size 1 and just moved to size 2 now that I’ve had children. It works great, no leaks, easy to use, comfortable. I like the colours as well.

  5. Sair (verified owner)

Convert after one cycle! I was overwhelmed by which cup to choose but went with Lunette and am so happy with it. Still building up my confidence with it, but so easy to use.

  6. Anonymous (verified owner)

Was great for the end of my period when flow was lighter

  7. Anonymous (verified owner)

Great to see such a reduction in wrapping waste after just one cycle! Easier to use than I had imagined.

  8. Kerrie (verified owner)

Cup is too hard and uncomfortable for me personally. This is the 3rd cup type I’ve tried and I couldn’t wear it for more than 30 minutes. Great stem style and cool colours though.

  9. Anonymous (verified owner)

I’ve heard that cups take a couple of cycles to get right, but the very first time and every time after that I used this cup, it went in perfectly, no leaks at all. I have always leaked with tampons and had to wear pads with the tampons. I was shocked at how easy they are to use and not as gross as I thought it would be, at all. It made my period way easier and more comfortable. I should have swapped to cups years ago.

  10. Kate (verified owner)

My periods went from feeling dirty, to now actually feeling clean. You don’t even know it’s there. It’s incredible. No leaks, love it

It is worth persevering. I’m in my early 40s, have not had children and have a retroverted uterus. I have just started using cups. I initially bought the Juju and Lunette cups. There was no leakage, which was awesome. I eventually found the Juju good to use, but the Lunette was very uncomfortable (probably too rigid for me). I found removal painful for both cups, leaving me feeling bruised, but found some fabulous young women on youtube who provide very useful information and tips. I then tried the Saalt soft cup, which is the perfect cup for me – I don’t notice it when its inserted, and is only a bit uncomfortable to remove. I’m adjusting my goals from eliminating the use of sanitary pads, to reducing use to 1-2 pads per month – that way I get a bit of a break if I’m feeling uncomfortable. But as someone who has never liked using tampons – the cups are fantastic. No worries about leakage, can last the full day while I’m at work, and no waste. My initial aim was based on environmental reasons, but I’ve found cups to also be much more effective than pads.

I like the colours. I ordered the yellow cup (sunshine vagina hahaha). It works very well, no leaks whatsoever. I am a cup convert. It also has larger holes, which makes for easy cleaning.

  17. Karen (verified owner)

Up until now I had a free cup from another site. I needed a new one and after research I chose Lynette. I was amazed at how much easier it was to insert. Absolutely love it!

  18. Monique (verified owner)

Good price, tail length is good for beginner to be able to help pull cup out. Sooo much better than tampons

  19. Chris (verified owner)

I found the cup super uncomfortable to the point it actually hurt

  20. Anonymous (verified owner)

This cup is great. Easy to insert. Easy to get out due to the ridges.
I do find sometimes I need more capacity and as a result have to change it more often than is convenient. It could be a little softer to make it a tad more comfortable.

  21. Clio (verified owner)

Seems a bit firm in the lip, which makes removal more painful for me then other cups. Fit is great, love the nibbles on the stem for guidance.

I’ve recently purchased the model 1 lunette cup and it’s just what I was after. I found the resources on the mca website helpful in choosing a cup. Previously I was using the model 2 lunette cup (for around 7 years) but gradually it was getting more uncomfortable to use. The model 1, although a bit smaller, is softer and moves more with my body whether I’m exercising, dancing or going to the bathroom without any leaking or moving.

Great product, easy to use. If it’s your first cup remember that practice makes perfect! Highly recommended!!

Why I waited so long to use these cups is beyond me. My life has been changed dramatically and I will never go back!

  28. Kayla Vegera (verified owner)

Absolutely love my menstrual cup I made the switch a few cycles ago and will never look back, I recently went on holidays and got my period but thanks to the cup my period didn’t ruin it get in the way of my holiday, very very happy with this product

Clearly a sturdy cup. Switching to a cup just takes practice and confidence, be prepared to spend your first cycle learning about your anatomy! Learning to insert the cup felt straight forward enough, no leakages either. However, cup removal takes practice and privacy, I wouldn’t plan on using this outside of the privacy and comfort of home for the first cycle or two, just to get used to it. I won’t be looking back however! I’m so glad I have made the switch.

  35. sharni (verified owner)

Super love the Lunette cups, not too soft and not too firm. Just right! Love the colours!

  36. Jenelle (verified owner)

I’m so happy I’ve switched to a menstrual cup. It was very easy to get used to and there are so many benefits. No more worrying about leaking on high flow days. It can be used over night. And no period smell.

I have had a natural delivery so I initially bought a lunette 2 but found it still too big. Now I have version 1 and it’s perfect for me. I would never go back to tampons.

Genuinely good product. Cutting the stem off made this cup more comfortable

  40. Anonymous (verified owner)

Turning into a cup junkie! This is my second cup, the other i have is a Juju which i love but is getting old so decided to try this one. The lunette seems a little stiffer, but still easy enough to fold and insert/remove. I always cut off the stem completely as i find them too uncomfortable and my cervix is lower post babies 🙂 no probs at all with this cup and would recommend happily, i do still wonder about the dye though…. something so vibrant looks a bit weird going in seeing as i avoid all artificial things in my diet!

It leaks. It’s painful and difficult to insert. I regret buying it. I’ve been trying to make it work for 5 months now (I thought practice makes perfect but perhaps not?)

Hi Sarah, Thank you for your review of the Lunette Cup and we are sorry to hear you have not had success with it. If you would like to contact us through our website, we would love to try and help solve your troubles. Do you happen to know if you have a low, mid, or high cervix? as this can often affect the comfort of a cup. Depending on your age and stage, you may also find a smaller cup (like the teen options) more suitable for your anatomy 🙂

Excellent product but takes a bit of practice so watch the videos and read the reviews for tips and hints. Red Herring on YouTube is great! Get to know your anatomy, don’t be squeamish and this cup is the best invention ever. Giving the cup a final twist once I think I have it inserted correctly seems to be the important thing to ensure a good seal and avoid any problems.

  59. Anonymous (verified owner)

Buying the Lunette has been absolutely life changing. I used to constantly be anxious about leaks and changing tampons and messy pads but since buying the Lunette all I have to do is change it once in the morning and once a night, and no leaks ever! LIFE CHANGING.

  60. Anonymous (verified owner)

The product itself is fine but I find it very difficult to remove. For me it sits quite high, and even with muscles relaxed and after breaking the suction I can only remove it by pulling on the end quite hard (which is not recommended). It’s a bit of an ordeal each time so I only use it at night, when I know I will have the time/space in the morning to remove it. I think I need to find a different cup better suited to my anatomy!
