HannahCup tips:

  • Your HannahCup can be worn for up to 8 hours, however, you may need to empty it more frequently on your heaviest days, depending on your level of flow.
  • If you find the stem of the cup is irritating your labia or protruding from your vagina, try inserting the cup higher. Alternatively, you can use scissors to trim the stem length slightly. DO NOT trim the stem while the cup is inserted and do not cut the stem off entirely at the base as this could make removal more difficult.
  • You may find it useful to wear a pantyliner or period underwear while first getting used to your cup, in case of any initial leaks.

IMPORTANT: Menstrual Cups have been associated with Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS). TSS is a rare but serious disease that may cause death. Always read and keep the information contained with your cup. Use only as directed. Discontinue use of this product and consult a GP if you experience any adverse side effects.

HannahCup Sizing

Unlike many other menstrual cup brands, determining the correct size HannaCup is based on your level of flow, rather than your age or child bearing history.

Small: Recommended for people with a mid-high cervix and a light to moderate flow. The small size holds around 3 regular tampons worth of menstrual fluid.

Medium: Recommended for people with a mid-high cervix and a moderate to heavy flow. If you have a heavy flow, you may find that you need to empty your cup more often on the first few days of your period. The medium size holds around 4 regular tampons worth of menstrual fluid.

If the cup feels too long, you can trim the stem slightly in order to shorten the overall length.

How to use the HannahCup

  1. Wash your hands and cup with unscented, mild, oil-free soap
  2. Fold the HannahCup using your preferred method
  3. Get into a comfortable position, either squatting down, sitting on the toilet, or standing with one leg slightly elevated on a stable surface
  4. Gently insert the cup into your vagina, ensuring the top curved rim enters first and the stem is pointing out
  5. Once fully inserted, remove your fingers to allow the cup to open fully. You may need to adjust the cup to create a good seal. You can do this by:
    • gripping the base and twisting the cup gently in a 360 degree rotation
    • pull slightly on the stem to test for resistance
    • run your finger around the base of the cup to ensure no part of the cup is still folded or scrunched

Practicing in the shower is a great way to get used to inserting and removing your menstrual cup. You will be more relaxed and it makes the process cleaner as well.

TIP: You may find that rubbing a small amount of water based lubricant around the rim of the cup makes insertion easier.

HannahCup Correct Insertion

  1. Wash your hands with unscented, mild, oil-free soap
  2. Get into a comfortable position, either squatting down, sitting on the toilet, or standing with one leg slightly elevated on a stable surface
  3. Slowly and gently tug the stem until you can reach the base of the cup. Pinch the base to break the suction seal. DO NOT remove the cup by pulling on the stem
  4. Slowly pull the cup out of the vagina, making sure it remains in an upright angle to avoid spillage. Gently rocking the cup from side to side as you pull can help make removal easier
  5. Empty and wash your HannahCup thoroughly. Re-insert or sterilise before storing for next use

HannahCup Care and Cleaning

  • Before first use and at the end of each cycle it is important to sterilise your HannahCup. Place the cup in boiling water for 5 minutes. Ensure the water is boiling before adding the cup and ensure it does not touch the base or sides of the pot (as it may burn or melt the silicone). Placing the cup inside a whisk can help with this. It is not recommended to use microwaves, alcohol, detergents, or sharp pointed objects for cleaning and disinfection of the HannahCup.
  • During your period, first rinse your cup in cold water, then wash in warm water using an unscented, mild, oil-free soap. Ensure the small suction holes in the rim of the cup are completely clean and clear.
  • When you have finished using your cup, dry it in a cool place, and keep in the included storage pouch away from direct sunlight.
  • It is time to replace your cup once the silicone shows any signs of deterioration or severe discolouration.
  • For hygiene reasons, do not share your HannahCup.
